Development of a conceptual design tool and calculation of stability and control derivatives for mini UAV systems
Yazırlı, Sena; Alemdaroğlu, Hüseyin Nafiz; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
The main objective of this thesis is to write a design tool that will perform the conceptual design phase of an aircraft and achieve the desired specifications of the design. For this purpose, a code is written in MATLAB so that the designer does not have to change or check parameter values when a modification on the mission altitude, cruise conditions, airfoil type, propulsion system units, weight or general geometry of the aircraft. Most of the available design tools are created for large aircraft and not...
Internal ballistic design optimization of a solid rocket motor
Açık, Sevda; Dursunkaya, Zafer; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2010)
Design process of a solid rocket motor with the objective of meeting certain mission requirements can be specified as a search for a best set of design parameters within the overall design constraints. In order to ensure that the best possible design amongst all achievable designs is being achieved, optimization is required during the design process. In this thesis, an optimization tool for internal ballistic design of solid rocket motors was developed. A direct search method Complex algorithm is used in th...
Static and dynamic aeroelastic analysis of a very light Aircraft
Demirer, Halime Gül; Kayran, Altan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2021-9-10)
Aircraft design processes need to ensure that the aircraft is aeroelastically stable within its operational envelope. This thesis presents an overview of the static aeroelastic, flutter and gust response analysis of a very light aircraft. MSC.FlightLoads and MSC.Nastran are used for aeroelastic modeling and analysis. The methods to be used in the aeroelastic analysis of the VLA are tested on the AGARD 445.6 wing, and the results are in good agreement with the literature. Aeroelastic model corrections such a...
Analysis, design and test of a jet vane based thrust vector control for tactical missiles
Eren, Oğuz; Eyi, Sinan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2017)
In this thesis, a design effort for a jet vane based Thrust Vector Control (TVC) in the scope of mechanical design, computational analysis and validating test process is executed to be able to find an optimum CFD approach to this kind of work. To do that, a preliminary design phase is initiated with an already optimized geometry which provides an aerodynamic surface to be worked on. After mechanical design approach to the geometry with system requirements, some of the unverified aspects of the design are te...
Development of a high fidelity finite element model of a wind turbine blade via modal testing
Amer, Chadi; Şahin, Melin; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2015)
The design of an optimised horizontal axis 5-meter-long wind turbine rotor blade, is a research and development project, in order to fulfil the requirements of high efficiency torque-from-wind production. For this purpose, a research study is presented here, by investigating the structural characteristics of a composite wind turbine blade via finite element modelling and experimental modal analysis. At first, modal tests are performed by using various sensor-actuator pair combinations. After that the geomet...
