Anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) drugs such as etanercept (ETN) have been mostly used in systemic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. To eliminate the side effects in long-term treatments and to achieve a local sustained anti-inflammatory effect, a controlled drug delivery system is needed for anti-TNF drugs. This study aims to develop novel injectable microcarriers of ETN that can provide long-term controlled release of this protein drug upon intra-articular application. In this study, poly(epsilon-caprolac...
In vivo detection of yeast alpha mating pheromone receptor ste2p homodimerization by FRET
Bulut, Giray; Son, Çağdaş Devrim; Department of Biology (2014)
Ste2p is an alpha type pheromone sensing receptor of ‘a’ type Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells. Yeast life cycle could be haploid or diploid due to the signal sensed by Ste2p. This receptor is a G protein coupled receptor (GPCR). GPCRs are one of the most important drug targets because they are playing key roles in cell signaling. They have seven transmembrane domains and linked with a G protein in the cytosol. FRET is a method that is used for detecting protein-protein interactions by using the resonance ene...
In vitro effects of boric acid on human liver hepatoma cell line (HepG2) at the half-maximal inhibitory concentration

Boron is a prominent part of the human diet and one of the essential trace elements for humans. Dietary boron is mostly transformed into boric acid within the body and has been associated with desirable health outcomes. Non-dietary resources of boron, such as boron-based drugs and occupational exposure, might lead to excessive boron levels in the blood and provoke health adversities. The liver might be particularly sensitive to boron intake with ample evidence suggesting a relation between boron and liver f...
In vitro activity of caspofungin compared to amphotericin B, fluconazole, and itraconazole against Candida strains isolated in a Turkish University Hospital
Arikan, S; Sancak, B; Hascelik, G (2005-03-01)
We investigated the in vitro activity of caspofungin compared to amphotericin B, fluconazole, and itraconazole against clinical strains of Candida spp. ( n = 239). Antifungal susceptibility tests were done in accordance with NCCLS M27-A2 microdilution method and the results were read after 24 and 48 h. In general, 24 h MIC readings were similar to those at 48 h for most isolates and all antifungal agents. Caspofungin was active against all species tested. Caspofungin MICs of Candida parapsilosis were slight...
