Investigation of bismuth doped bioglass/graphene oxide nanocomposites for bone tissue engineering
Pazarçeviren, Ahmet Engin; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Keskin, Dilek; Evis, Zafer (2018-03-01)
In this study, bismuth doped 45S5 nanobioactive bioglass (nBG) and graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites were developed and characterized in terms of microstructural, mechanical, bioactivity and biological properties. Bismuth (Bi) - doped nBG was synthesized by sol-gel method and sintered at 600 degrees C for 2 h. Nanosized GO was homogeneously mixed with Bi doped bioglass at various ratios to prepare nanocomposites. Addition of Bi increased the density of nBG samples while a considerable decrease in density w...
Investigations of new horizons on H2/O2 proton exchange membrane fuel cells
Yazaydın, Ahmet Özgür; Eroğlu, İnci; Lemi, Türker; Department of Chemical Engineering (2003)
Proton exchange membrane fuel cells are electrochemical devices which convert the chemical energy of hydrogen into electrical energy with a high efficiency. They are compact and produce a powerful electric current relative to their size. Different from the batteries they do not need to be recharged. They operate as long as the fuel is supplied. Fuel cells, therefore, are considered as one of the most promising options to replace the conventional power generating systems in the future. In this study five PEM...
Investigation of Alternative Array Configurations of Nanowires for Maximum Power Transmission at Optical Frequencies
Karaosmanoglu, Bariscan; Satana, Hasan Aykut; Dikmen, Fatih; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-07-14)
We present a computational analysis and comparison of nanowire arrays for efficient transmission of electromagnetic power at optical frequencies. A reliable simulation environment involving the multilevel fast multipole algorithm for fast iterative solutions of surface integral equations is used to accurately compute field intensity and power density values in the vicinity of nanowires in diverse configurations. The results demonstrate favorable properties of honeycomb structures that can provide efficient ...
Investigation of Nanoantenna Geometries for Maximum Field Enhancements at Optical Frequencies
Ustun, E.; Eroglu, O.; Gür, Uğur Meriç; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-05-25)
We present a comparative study of nanoantennas for maximum power enhancements at their feed gaps. Due to frequency-dependent plasmonic properties of metals at optical frequencies, removing the frequency-size relationship used in perfectly conducting models, two-dimensional analysis involving both frequency and geometric scaling is performed to accurately assess the performances of different geometries. Computationally intensive simulations involving thousands of full-wave solutions are carried out by employ...
