Induction of Partial EMT with Nutrient Restriction and Lysosomal Alkalinization in Caco-2 Colorectal Cancer Cells
Hüsnügil, Hepşen Hazal; Banerjee, Sreeparna; Department of Biology (2022-8)
Limited availability of nutrients to cancer cells can result in metabolic rewiring, manifesting in the activation of processes such as autophagy for survival. Our study shows for the first time that Caco-2 cells incubated in a nutrient-restriction (NR) medium of low glucose, glutamine and serum for 48h were viable but less proliferative, demonstrated robust autophagy induction and lower sensitivity to 5- Fluorouracil. However, the cargo protein p62 was not degraded efficiently, suggesting a slower autop...
Induction of embryogenic tissue and development of somatic embryos in pinus brutia ten
Yıldırım, Tolga; Kaya, Zeki; Department of Biology (2005)
Conifer species are subjected to major time constraints in tree improvement because of their long regeneration cycle and large sizes. However, integration of developing biotechnologies could significantly reduce this time limitation in tree breeding programs. In this regard, somatic embryogenesis (SE) offers a great potential in commercially important Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia TEN.) for rapid production of larger number of clones as well as capture of greater genetic gains. In this study, seven collect...
Induction of Protease-Resistant Prion Protein and alpha-synuclein Aggregation by Human alpha-synuclein Fibrils in Cultured Cells

Induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest on U266 multiple myeloma cell line by prochlorperazine
Hüsnügil, Hepşen Hazal; Özen, Can; Banerjee, Sreeparna; Department of Biochemistry (2016)
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell neoplasm accounting for 1% of all malignancies and 13% of hematological malignancies. Despite the introduction of potent anticancer agents, MM remains as an incurable disease. High frequency of relapses and acquisition of resistance to current chemotherapy create a need for the development of novel agents for MM treatment. Prochlorperazine (PCP) is an FDA-approved phenothiazine drug, mainly used for the treatment of chemotherapy-associated nausea and vomiting. In addit...
Induction of embryogenic tissue and maturation of somatic embryos in Pinus brutia TEN
Yildirim, Tolga; Kaya, Zeki; Isik, Kani (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2006-10-01)
Embryogenic tissues (ET) of Turkish red pine (Pinus brutia TEN) were initiated from immature precotyledonary zygotic embryos sampled from 15 different plus trees. Seven collections were made weekly from June 10 to July 22, 2003. DCR basal medium supplemented with 13.6 mu M 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 2.2 mu M benzylaminopurine (BAP) was used for initiation and maintenance of ET. Overall initiation frequency of ET in the study was 11.6%, initiation rates ranging between 4.7% and 24.1% per tree...
