In this study, sound field inside acoustically-structurally coupled rectangular cavity excited by structural loading and sound sources is shaped by optimizing the position of the sound source. In the optimization, Most Probable Optimal Design (MPOD) based on Holographic Neural Network is employed and the results are compared with Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP). It is shown that source position, rather than source strength, is more effective in acoustically controlled modes. The nodal positions for in-vacuo acoustical normal modes arc good candidates for initial starting points.

Assessment of sound transmission characteristics of traditional timber framed dwellings in Ankara Turkey
Erdil, Meltem; Tavukçuoğlu, Ayşe; Çalışkan, Mehmet (null; 2015-06-01)
The impact and airborne sound transmission characteristics of interior wall and floor components in traditional timber-framed dwellings (Ankara, Turkey) were examined by in-situ acoustical measurements and simulation analyses. Presence of voids for the running of pipework or door/ window openings existed in the composition of timber framed wall and floor components was found to reduce their sound insulation performances in the range of 12-22dB. Air/sound leakages through the openings should be sealed proper...
Comparison of PWM and PFM induction drives ID in,egarding audible noise and vibration for household applications
Ertan, Hulusi Bülent (2004-11-01)
This paper is aimed at comparing the performance of pulse frequency modulation (PFM) and pulsewidth modulation (PWM) techniques regarding audible noise generated from inverter-driven induction motors. For the purpose of illustrating the performance of the two modulation techniques, a drive developed for washing machine applications is considered. First, the measured and simulated harmonic content of this inverter is compared with the measured harmonic spectrum of a three-phase input-output commercial variab...
A new method of curve fiting for calculation of reverberation time from impulse responses with insufficient length
Özgenel, Çağlar Firat; Sorguç, Arzu (2012-12-01)
Most of the room acoustics evaluation parameters are calculated from the energy decay curve obtained from the room impulse response. Schroeder's backwards integration method is one of the most commonly used methods to obtain room impulse response. Although, the method holds its validity since 1964 and used extensively, obtaining room impulse response with sufficient length to observe total energy decay requires high computational cost especially in highly reverberant rooms. In such cases, present acoustical...
Prediction of ducted diaphragm noise using a stochastic approach with adapted temporal filters
Karban, Ugur; Schram, Christophe; Sovardi, Carlo; Polifke, Wolfgang (SAGE Publications, 2019-01-01)
The noise production by ducted single- and double-diaphragm configurations is simulated using a stochastic noise generation and radiation numerical method. The importance of modeling correctly the anisotropy and temporal de-correlation is discussed, based on numerical results obtained by large eddy simulation. A new temporal filter is proposed, designed to provide the targeted spectral decay of energy in an Eulerian reference frame. An anisotropy correction is implemented using a non-linear model. The acous...
Numerical and experimental investigation of tubeaxial fan noise
Bodur, Ahmet; Çalışkan, Mehmet; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
In this study, the noise characteristic of a tube axial fan is investigated numerically and experimentally. The effects of blockage plate in front of the tube axial fan on the tube axial fan noise level are experimentally investigated. A computational aero-acoustic method is used to predict the flow induced fan noise. This method couples a flow solver and a wave equation solver. Unsteady flow analysis is performed with URANS (Unsteady Reynolds Average Navier Stokes Equation) method while acoustics radiation...
