Design, Modelling and Analysis of Morphing Airfoils
Köksal, Buğra; Şahin, Melin; Uzol, Oğuz; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2023-1)
This study presents the design, finite element (FE) modeling and analysis of a morphing airfoil using pressure-actuated cell structures. It is aimed that the selected baseline airfoil should be capable of changing its profile to morph into a target airfoil profile. To achieve this goal, first, a NACA 0012 airfoil with a 500 mm chord and 8 mm x 8 mm outer cross-section is obtained in Altair® HyperWorks environment as a baseline airfoil. Following this, the cell actuators responsible for morphing are designed...
Effects of morphing on aeroelastic behavior of unmanned aerial vehicle wings
Ünlüsoy, Levent; Yaman, Yavıuz; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2014)
Morphing aircraft technologies became the center of attention in aviation industry through the last decade. Although the intended optimization of the aircraft in terms of aerodynamics and/ or flight performance resulted in advantages like reduction in carbon dioxide emission and noise levels; that also brought some structural borne problems such as the possibly deteriorating change in the aeroelastic behavior of the structure. These structural problems should be clearly identified and attempted to be elimin...
