Knotted solutions of maxwell equations
Altun, Salman Eren.; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür; Department of Physics (2019)
We review Rañada’s knotted solutions of Maxwell equations in this thesis. We explain the method behind these constructions and its relation to topology. The method starts with the null field assumption. We obtain the initial conditions of the electromagnetic field using the Hopf map. Then we find the time-dependent fields using Fourier transformation techniques. Finally, we analyze the properties of general torus knotted solutions and show that these also include the non-null fields.
CP violation in polarized B -> pi l(+)l(-) and B -> pl(+)l(-) decays
Erkol, G; Wagenaar, JW; Turan, Gürsevil (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2005-05-01)
We study the decay rate and the CP violating asymmetry of the exclusive B -> pi l(+)l(-) and B -> rho l(+)l(-) decays in the case where one of the final leptons is polarized. We calculate the contributions coming from the individual polarization states in order to identify a so-called wrong sign decay, which is a decay with a given polarization, whose width and CP asymmetry are smaller as compared to the unpolarized one. The results are presented for electrons and tau leptons. We observe that in particular ...

Hybrid finite element for analysis of functionally graded beams
Sarıtaş, Afşin; Soydas, Ozan (2017-01-01)
A hybrid finite element model is presented, where stiffness and mass distributions over a beam with functionally graded material (FGM) are accurately modeled for both elastic and inelastic material responses. Von Mises and Drucker-Prager plasticity models are implemented for metallic and ceramic parts of FGM, respectively. Three-dimensional stress-strain relations are solved by a general closest point projection algorithm, and then condensed to the dimensions of the beam element. Numerical examples and veri...
Singular inverse Sturm-Liouville problems with Hermite pseudospectral methods
Altundag, H.; Taşeli, Hasan (2021-10-01)
A numerical approximation to recover certain symmetric potentials in the singular inverse Sturm-Liouville problems over (-infinity,infinity) is presented. A Hermite pseudospectral method is employed to cope with the corresponding direct problem on the real line, which is encountered in the iterative procedure proposed for the inverse problem. The usual but unwelcome ill-posed structure of the resulting numerical algorithm has been treated to some extent by the help of a flexible optimization parameter and r...
