IEEEA different approach for attitude filtering integrates the filter with one of the static attitude estimators (e.g. QUEST) such that the filter uses the estimated attitude by this estimator as the measurement. Among several advantages such as being robust and providing fast convergence, this architecture is also useful when several measurements are integrated. In contrast, this approach cannot provide any measurement to the filter when only one vector measurement is available. In this study, a cascaded static attitude estimator and Kalman filter architecture is proposed and it is shown that coarse attitude estimates are possible using only the magnetometer measurements. Results show that the proposed method can estimate the attitude with an accuracy better than 5 deg, specifically if the satellite is not experiencing high angular rates and the sampling frequency for magnetometer measurements is high. Besides providing a standalone solution, the given method can be used as a back-up when a magnetometer-only attitude solution is needed, e.g. when the satellite is in eclipse.

Attitude estimation for nanosatellites ssing Singular value decomposition and unscented kalman filter
Söken, Halil Ersin; Çilden Güler, Demet (null; 2015-07-10)
The singular value decomposition (SVD), one of the single frame attitude estimation methods, is used together with the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) for nanosatellite attitude estimation. The proposed interlaced algorithm estimates the attitude and gyro biases using three attitude sensors onboard, which are magnetometers, sun sensors and gyroscopes. The algorithm uses the SVD method at first to estimate the optimal attitude by minimizing the Wahba's loss function. In the second phase, the UKF takes this inf...
OPTIMUM DESIGN OF DISCRETE TRANSMIT PHASE ONLY BEAMFORMER
Demir, Özlem Tuğfe; Tuncer, Temel Engin (2013-09-13)
Transmit beamformer design usually results suboptimum bearnformers in multicast scenario. In this paper, discrete phase only beamformer design is considered. The design problem is cast in such a form that the solution is always feasible and optimum beamformer can be found using the branch and cut algorithm. Beamformer phase terms and their interrelations are expressed with a set of cosine vectors which lead to linear set of constraint equations that can be solved with mixed integer linear prograrmning. It i...
THE GENERALIZED H-LATTICE FILTER AND ESTIMATION OF THE ARMA MODELS
YARMANVURAL, F; WAWRZYNSKI, D; CETIN, AE (1989-01-01)
A class of lattice filters, the generalized H-lattice filters is introduced. The generalized H-lattice filters can represent the autoregressive moving-average (ARMA) models and they can be used for the modeling and analysis of the ARMA stochastic process.
Static Aeroelastic calculations for a wing under large deformations
Atik, Hediye; Baran, Özgür Uğraş; Tüzün, Aydin (2012-01-01)
This paper presents a practical workflow on static aeroelastic problems with extreme deflections. The aim of this study is to achieve a fast, yet robust method to calculate the change of the aerodynamic parameters as well as to ensure structural integrity of a wing deforming under aerodynamic loads. To predict static aeroelastic behavior of a high aspect ratio wing, calculations are performed on very fine grids at a relatively large number of flight conditions. Fluid calculations are performed with FLUENT o...
Causal and stable FIR-IIR Wiener filters
Tuncer, Temel Engin (2003-10-01)
IIR Wiener filters are the optimum filters with minimum MSE. In general, these filters are noncausal and their causal counterparts have larger MSE. In this paper, we propose causal and stable FIR-IIR Wiener filters which have the same MSE performance when the FIR part is sufficiently long. FIR-IIR Wiener filter employs the best delay LS inverse filter to model the noncausal part of the IIR Wiener filter. We have compared the MSE performances of IIR causal and noncausal, FIR best delay and FIR-IIR Wiener fil...
