Biographical Information

John F. Johnson was born in Walnut Ridge, Harris County, Georgia, on February 8, 1827, and while he was a young child moved to the area of Pickens County, Alabama. He married Nancy Beard, a member of one of the prominent families of that county. Johnson's parents were John D. Johnson, born July 3, 1798, and Jane English Johnson, born February 9, 1799. His brothers and sisters include the following:

James R. Johnson, J.C.B. Johnson, F.E. Johnson, Sarah Elizabeth Ann Johnson, Mary Jane Johnson, Wincy Ann Johnson, Cynthia Johnson.

John F. and Nancy Beard Johnson's children include the following three children: Martha Jane Johnson, born Sept. 18, 1857; Mary Addie Johnson, born Feb. 5, 1860; and Sally Ada Johnson, born Nov. 8, 1865.

Johnson moved to Choctaw County, now Webster, near the middle of the nineteenth century and lived in the Grady Community for the rest of his life. This was about eight miles from Greensboro, then the county seat of Choctaw County. He was active in church and civic affairs, being a staunch Baptist. He was a Confederate soldier and a loyal Democrat. He served Webster County as Tax Assessor for a number of years. Johnson died on December 17, 1912, in the home of his daughter, Ada Johnson Justice in the Grady Community.
