Abstract
The noise limits of phase-preserving NOLM-based regenerators from Rayleigh backscattering and possible improvements are investigated. Applying optimizations a four fold increase in the number of cascaded regenerators was achieved for a DPSK transmission system. (C) 2010 Optical Society of America
