alternifolia, Thymus mastichina e Porophyllum ruderale. Embora tenham havido algumas
The vine (Vitis vinifera) is a plant with great economic, social and cultural importance all over the world. Which suffers attacks by biological agents that put its health at risk. A group of organisms responsible for these attacks are pathogenic filamentous fungi. Currently, the most usual antifungal control process relies on chemical products, which persist in the soil and in the final product of the grapes (the wine), being harmful to the human health and the health of other living creatures. The goal of this research was to explore a sustainable alternative to control three filamentous fungi that cause diseases in the vine: Armillaria mellea – White root rot, Botrytis cinerea - Grey mold and Phaeomoniella chlamydospora - Esca disease complex. The effect of five essential oils (EOs), already known to have natural antifungal characteristics, was tested on these fungi. The experiment consisted in the evaluation of both mycelial growth and spore germination of the fungus when in contact with the EO. In vitro, the mycelial growth of each of the three fungi was evaluated when in contact with EOs - Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cymbopogon nardus, Melaleuca alternifolia, Thymus mastichina and Porophyllum ruderale. Even though there were some differences, the EO that best demonstrates the inhibitor effect against all fungi tested was C. zeylanicum. Then, B. cinerea spores were incubated with EO of C. zeylanicum and P. ruderale, eugenol (major component of C. zeylanicum EO) and eugenol encapsulated in microparticles. Once again it was C. Zeylanicum EO that achieved a 100% inhibition of germination, as well as encapsulated eugenol. A chemical product, Mekzol, already marketed to the cork oak industry, was also tested for inhibition of micellar growth of the three fungi. It was used as a comparative and had a completely opposite effect of the EO. |
