This sub-corpus contains the texts published in Volker Heeschen’s text collection "Ninye Bún - Mythen, Erzählungen, Lieder und Märchen der Eipo" (Heeschen 1990). In addition to the edited versions, which are reproduced here as scans from the publication, it contains the respective original recordings. These were made by Heeschen between the late 1970s and the early 1980s, during his fieldwork that was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, within the program “Interdisziplinäre Erforschung von Mensch, Kultur und Umwelt im zentralen Hochland von West-Irian (Neuguinea)” These original reel to reel and tape recordings have been digitized within the DoBeS “Summits”-project, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. The published texts are not transcripts of the recordings. They differ significantly from the audio recordings, as the myths and stories were usually told by several speakers with lots of interruptions and discussions. The published texts were written down by Heeschen on the basis of the recordings in close consultations with the speakers with a focus on capturing the main episodes of a given myth or story. For some texts no audio recordings are available. They were compiled solely on the basis of written notes. Before publication, all texts were checked line by line by Heeschen with native speakers for grammar, style and content.
