The year later, he had given up that job and worked occasionally as a tourist guide. As he and Nadine became close friends over the years, he got more and more involved in the documentation project as an assistant and interpreter. He is very much liked among the Bagyeli of Ngolo and serves as a semi-regular messenger between Nadine and Ngolo village while Nadine is not in the field. When the Bagyeli want to reach Nadine while she is not in Cameroon, they borrow a phone from their Bulu neighbors and call Calvin, whose phone number is painted on a metal plaque on the chief's house and then Calvin contacts Nadine (via WhatsApp).
