Abstract
This paper explores the areas of tension between Peter Singer's utilitarian philosophy and the recent work of the psychologist Jonathan Haidt, specifically focusing on the plausibility of impartial behavior within the framework of evolutionary psychology. It proposes a compromise that allows each to occupy their own respective area of influence.
