Formerly residence of commanding officers of Fort Monroe. Lafayette stayed here briefly in 1824 when he revisited the United States as a guest of the nation. Lincoln stayed here in May 1862 when he came to inspect the military operations in the Hampton Roads area." Postcard number: 2668.
