Summary
Sloane Brown and Jeff Salkin host this weekly program on "people, places, and issues" from around Maryland. Topics discussed include gun control, the state police and the FBI investigating hate groups and militias in Maryland, protests in Maryland to prevent the closing of Fort Ritchie, and Genetic Therapy, Inc. in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Annette Gibbs-Davis covers the story on gun control, which includes interviews from Lt. Greg Shipley of the Maryland State Police, Gov. Parris Glendening. Pat Laughlin of Valley Guns Dealership, Barbara Willis of the Gun Violence Committee, Dick Willis of Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse, and gun marksman Ralph Denton, Sr. This segment is followed by "It's Your Call," in which reporters interview citizens on the street about gun control. Next, Col. David B. Mitchell of the Maryland State Police discusses his experience viewing the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing and what he learned about how Maryland might be more prepared to handle the possibility of similar threats. This leads to a segment called "Diner's Debate," in which David Paulsen and William Jarvis debate police powers versus personal liberty. Diane Richards reports on the effort to oppose the shut-down of Fort Ritchie (recommended by the Base Realignment and Closure Commission), including interviews with local citizens Herb Meininger, Greg DeLauter, Richard Palmer, Lonnie Knickmeier, Betsy Bretz, Ann Bragg, The segment "Made In" reports on Genetic Therapy, Inc. with interviews with company CEO Dr. James Barrett and employees Kathy Stambaugh and Joyce Francis. Scott Hileman reports on the use of dogs to prevent sleepwalking, interviewing Allexis Welsh and her mother Sue Friedman
