Abstract

This project investigates a filmic technique—the production of moments of absorption and estrangement—and its translation and provocation to architecture with attention to private life and residence. The design research explored a set of formal, material, tectonic, programmatic, and temporal qualities, and a series of operations and presentation of these qualities that produced or irrupted continuity and cohesion. The thesis argues that this technique can be one framework for articulating contemporary subjecthood and architectural experience.
