Abstract

This thesis argues that Hezbollah adapted a dual identity, with a political party and military wing, in order to serve and protect its constituents. It discusses the Lebanese Civil War and the environment in which Hezbollah was created. The thesis relies on the narratives in Hezbollah’s leadership’s speeches, as well as the evolving Manifesto, to demonstrate the underlying motives for the group’s transition after the war was over in the early 1990
