Abstract: Fiona Stanley has produced some of the most important work carried out in the area of maternal and child health. Her method relies on treating a problem before it is entrenched. It has led the epidemiologist to explore beyond the borders of traditional medicine. From her findings, one of the most powerful antidotes to keeping young lives healthy is the arts. In spite of growing economic prosperity, the call for action in Australia is more urgent now, than ever.
