Abstract: Out of the Frame was the title given to a series of short plays that were developed by Gordon Cope and Benjamin Thorn in response to 16 artworks selected from the New England Regional Art Museum collections. The performances were the result of a project-based initiative whereby the writers/directors established new and innovative ways of working that negotiated new relationships between the visual and performing arts. The creative work explored the interstices between visual and performing arts and how one is interpreted and understood through the other. The final scripted and choreographed performances ensured that the audience came to understand the fluidity of interpretative possibilities in viewing artworks.
