Abstract: During the First World War Australia had a great many soldier versifiers and balladeers but very few genuine soldier poets. Vance Palmer was one of that very select group but his reputation as a war poet rests entirely upon a mere six poems in the collection published in 1920 as 'The Camp'. It is, therefore, both exciting and important when an additional three poems, written on active service in 1918, can be added to the short list of poems derived from his war experience.
