Title: | Variability in gastrointestinal parasite resistance and productivity in Angora goats | Contributor(s): | Olayemi, Muyiwa (author); Walkden-Brown, Steve William (author) ; Van Der Werf, Julius Herman (author) ; LeJambre, L F (author) | Publication Date: | 2003 | Handle Link: | https://hdl.handle.net/1959.11/4350 | Abstract: | Data were collected from 430 Angora kids over a period of 2 years for estimation of genetic parameters for production traits, and phenotypic correlations between production and gastrointestinal parasite (GIP) resistance. Mohair traits were moderately heritable (0.37 to 0.55), with generally higher heritability estimates than for body weights (0.19 to 0.24). Faecal egg count had negative and low phenotypic correlations with body weight at all ages of measurements (-0.14 to -0.22). The correlation between other potential marker traits for resistance (Ab, EOS & PCV) and productivity were inconsistent and close to 0. | Publication Type: | Conference Publication | Conference Details: | AAABG 2003: 15th Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Melbourne, Australia, 7-11 July, 2003 | Source of Publication: | Proceedings of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics, v.15, p. 404-407 | Publisher: | Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics (AAABG) | Place of Publication: | Armidale, Australia | ISSN: | 1328-3227 | Fields of Research (FoR) 2008: | 070201 Animal Breeding | Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) 2008: | 830304 Goats | Peer Reviewed: | Yes | HERDC Category Description: | E1 Refereed Scholarly Conference Publication | Publisher/associated links: | http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/22223828?selectedversion=NBD24379203 http://www.aaabg.org/livestocklibrary/2003/404-408.pdf |
