Sammanfattning
This thesis describes the research and development of a logger unit for a system that measures stopping characteristics and movement of machines for safety purposes. The logger unit is a central part of the system called Smart. This unit can be connected to external devices such as rotary encoders for measuring movement and stopping equipment including light beams, emergency buttons and more. Before a measurement can be made it is required to set up conditions that will trigger the start and end of the measurement. The log unit samples data from sensors during the measurement. After the measurement is done the data is visualized in a graph, the represented data can for example be position, velocity and analogue values from the AD. The currently existing Smart system requires a connection with a PC where an application called Smart Manager controls the logger unit and visualizes the collected data. All settings for the measurement are set up in Smart Manager since the logger unit lacks any form of user input and display. The new logger unit that is to be developed shall perform the measurements without the need for a PC, it should also be equipped with a touch screen where all the configurations can easily be set, and after the measurement is done the unit should be able to visualize the data in a graph with limited zoom possibilities. The work has resulted in a prototype consisting of a development board from MikroElektronika called ”mikromedia for dsPIC33EP” and an application. The prototype can be used to measure movement from rotary encoders, calculate the velocity of the movements, verify measurement conditions, visualize the collected data and then save it the a SD-card. Everything can be done without a connection to a PC.
