Abstract: This research is centered in the 1880s and 1890s. The intention is to investigate the national literary context at the moment of transition between the Monarchy and the Republic, questioning the fact that until now we have only found analyzes that explore and highlight the great literary and political performance of the "men of letters" in that period. Therefore, it is proposed a research that connects and articulates "women of letters", focusing the analysis primarily on Maria Ignez Sabino Pinho Maia (1853-1911), Maria Benedicta Câmara Bormann [Délia] (1852-1895) and Josephina Álvares de Azevedo or Zefa (1851-1913), all working in the feminist press and in the mainstream press in the Court and in the "Capital Federal". The press, therefore, was the field in which a network of contacts was established between "women of letters" from Rio de Janeiro and from various parts of Brazil and the world, notably Europe and the United States. The literature produced in the space of newspapers in Rio de Janeiro promotes the possibility of investigating the meanings of political and literary projects by historical agents, generally marginalized, women, who used literature as a way of claiming political rights, in a society recently egressed from slavery and Monarchy, sparking a broader debate about the importance in the feminist press at the transnational level
