Abstract:
This thesis brings together the voices of eight gymnasts from the Brazilian Individual Team of Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) with the aim of bringing contributions to the sport based on the interpretation of the trajectories narrated by the athletes. To this end, this qualitative research is based on the theoretical-methodological contribution of oral history using life history interviews. These interviews, recorded and transcribed by the researcher herself, were analyzed using the cross-analysis technique proposed by Paul Thompson (1992). To date, Brazil has participated in three editions of the Olympic Games in the individual event: Los Angeles (1984); Barcelona (1992); and Rio de Janeiro (2016). Therefore, the oral reports of all gymnasts who competed for these Olympic places in World Championships that took place in years prior to the Olympic Games were considered, in which, for the present research, gymnasts were categorized into three generations: Pioneers (1983), Transition (1991) and New Generation (2015). Therefore, the results chapters bring insights from gymnasts from different generations, spanning 33 years (1983 to 2016), on discussion topics ranging from sports initiation to the consequences of gymnasts leaving the sport. In this sense, this thesis expands investigations in sports history; contributes to the memory of the sport by bringing present perceptions of the past; and records a version of historical (re)construction, highlighting advances, stagnations and trends that highlight the particularities of the national RG. It is worth highlighting that this methodological choice, which allows listening and visibility to those who are excluded, brings to light the story of these women who, despite their sporting prominence, are not "seen" and remembered by Brazilian society, nor even heard in their sports gyms. training. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that whether they went to the Olympic Games did not spare the gymnasts from experiencing invisibility after the end of their careers, highlighting the "discard" and forgetfulness of gymnasts who represented Brazil internationally. during the chosen time frame. In conclusion, notes are offered for reflections on the contexts that permeate sporting trajectories in order to encourage future actions to enable the development of the sport, taking into account the perspectives of Brazilian gymnasts themselves
