Abstract: The center of the feminist struggle over the 20th century was the quest for universal suffrage. The achievement of the right to vote, however, didn’t result in gender parity in politics in several countries, including Brazil. From this context, this work looks at the female representation in the Brazilian legislature by presenting and analyzing the presence of women politicians. The purpose is to verify in what measure the presence/participation of women in the Legislative of Limeira contributed to the formulation of public policies aimed at the female population. To this end, a documental survey and comparison of the proposals of mandates of councilors in the period between 2005 and 2016 was carried out. In order to give historical visibility to these political women, it was also performed a biographical survey. The parliamentarians were invited to participate in a semi-structured interview that was recorded and later transcribed. The interviews were analyzed from analytical categories, which explore the social profiles of the interviewees, the experiences lived during the mandate and the perceptions of gender stereotypes in political action. The work hypothesis proved to be true, by identifying that the presence of women parliamentarians influenced a policy agenda in the city, resulting in 23 laws approved in the studied period, especially in the areas of combating violence against women and health. On the other hand, it was identified that the councilors didn’t seek to impose changes in the way of legislating and they adapted to the already established design, male and sexist
