[en] Thick films (up to 25 µm) of Ni-B alloys were synthesized by the electroless method on mild steel substrates. Some of those coatings were submitted to an hardening heat treatment at 400°C during 1 hour in an atmosphere containing 95% Ar and 5% H2.
The corrosion resistance of those samples was investigated by potentiondynamic polarisation in 0.1 M sodium chloride, diluted sodium hydroxide and sulphuric acid. The samples were also investigated optically to determine the corrosion mechanisms occurring during the testing.
Beneficial effects of the heat treatment on the corrosion resistance were observed.
Corrosion features were observed after testing in sodium chloride in the form of black spots on the sample, relatively similar in aspect but not due to pitting corrosion.
