Abstract
The emergence of chironomids from a certain section of a small brook under a greenhouse near Schlitz/Hesse is treated. 144 species could be recorded during the time of the investigation (1969-1973). One of the species found is new to the science. The effects of the fluctuations of water temperature, current velocity and the water level on the total emergence and on some single species are discussed. The use of the first ten species of the respective year for this procedure is highly significant with 65-85 % to represent the total emergence. Data to the ecology and phenology of some important species are given. The dry weight of the abundant species is shown, as well as the total production of biomass.
