Designing sustainable product service systems in SMEs
journal contribution
posted on 2014-10-14, 10:35 authored by Ricardo J. Hernandez-Pardo, Tracy Bhamra, Ran BhamraSustainable Product Service System (PSS) is a promising approach to support companies to move toward more competitive and sustainable business models. In this paper a research approach is presented to identify and develop opportunities to design sustainable PSS particularly oriented to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This approach is based on the integration of Product and Service Design with the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This integration delimits the space of reference to search for opportunities to design sustainable PSS making the process more practical and suitable for SMEs. The research approach is presented as a design framework intended to be used by government agencies, research centres, universities, consultancies or other major actors working with SMEs in the design of sustainable business models. Finally, the strengths and limitations of the framework and potential future directions for research in this area are discussed.
