Additive Manufacturing (AM), also referred to as 3D printing or Rapid Prototyping (RP), is the process of producing parts from a computer-aided-design (CAD) model through layerby-layer joining of raw materials. Such methods allow fabrication of parts with complex geometry and reduced material waste. The overall process starts from designing a component using a CAD software; this design is converted into mesh data in the form of STL (Surface Tessellation Language) file, with the part sliced into 2D layers for the printing machine [1].
