Abstract:
This thesis explores the reasons why David Hamilton’s works have proved so successful with choirs in New Zealand and discusses some of their more notable characteristics of style as well as the evidence they offer of his experience of working with vocal ensembles of many kinds. This is demonstrated through a series of short case studies of works performed as part of my MMus recital.
