Abstract Public hall activities are very popular among senior citizens. But factors besides popularity are yet clearly understood. The objective of this study was to elucidate whether female seniors citizens i...n the chorus group were in better health status or in better daily habits than those in the other activity groups. Female senior citizens aged over 65 years old in the chorus activities (the chorus group: 42 in 45 cases) and other group activities (the non-chorus group: 38 in 45 cases). The average age was 72.0±6.1 years old in the chorus group and that was 69.4±4.2 years old in the non-chorus groups (p=0.028) respectively. An unsigned questionnaire investigation about subjective health status and daily habits was performed in August 2002. Smoking, drinking, seasoning, intake of green vegetables, and intake of fat showed no significant statistical difference between the two groups. Intakes of milk and exercise custom were significantly higher in the non-chorus group than in the chorus group (p=0.012). More people had other hobbies in the chorus group than in the non-chorus group (p=0.007). About subjective health status, the non-chorus group had significantly more complaints as to general symptoms, specific organ symptoms, and mind temperament (p<0.001).show more
