'UOMINI E NO' DI ELIO VITTORINI. IL TESTO TRA CARTE E POETICA, TRA EDIZIONI E CRITICA.

This dissertation concerns the Elio Vittorini’s novel, Uomini e no (1945), examined from a new point of view introduced by the philological analysis of writer’s hand written papers and the page-proofs of the first edition, corrected by the author. Till now, all these documents has been neglected by the critics, but they allow us to study the creative process that leads to the texts edited the first time in 1945. We can show therefore the transformations of the characters’ features and the evolution of the plot. The following part of the dissertation is dedicated to study Vittorini’s literature conception and her modifications during the 1940s, especially during the years immediately after the Second World War. These modifications leads the writer to a new edition of the novel, published in 1949, very different in comparison with the first one. This dissertation ends with the textual analysis of the 1949’s edition.
