On April 15, 1755, Samuel Johnson published the first edition of his Dictionary of the English Language. Johnson compiled and wrote his work almost entirely by himself. It appeared in London. We tend to remember Johnson as an old man, sitting amongst piles of books, writing and constructing his dictionary, though he was only 46 years old when he published his dictionary. (Introduction)
