Abstract
The film "The Island of the Lost" (Urban Gad, 1921), produced at the dawn of German Expressionism and based on a novel by H.G. Wells, uses the mythical symbolism of the island. This article analyses the features of this symbolism; refuge, idyllic paradise, or a secret hideout where evil can prevail.
