La labor traductográfica y la filosofía traductológica de San Jerónimo en su marco biográfico

Abstract

En el presente artículo esbozamos los rasgos biográficos de San Jerónimo que han podido determinar su filosofía de la traducción, describiendo el contexto histórico y su personalidad intelectual, como escritor y traductor. También se menciona su presencia en la historia del arte para pasar a continuación a analizar su actividad traductográfica y su traductología, utilizando pasajes de sus cartas como ejemplo de las líneas maestras de su pensamiento.

In this article we give a biographical sketch of Jerome of Stridon by way of historical context, to then go on to describe the intellectual personality, both as a writer and a translator, of the first great translator in history. Following an excursus into the history of art, in order to establish and set forth, in its fundamental lines, his presence in Christian iconography as a testimony of his cultural measure, we analyse St. Jerome’s translation activity and, finally, his philosophy and criticism of translation, using passages of his letters that deal with these matters.
