Abstract

An abstract model, called the data abstraction model, is proposed, and the basic DATAM constructs and representations are presented. The use of DATAM in the modelling and representation of the enterprise view of data is described. The expressiveness of the data abstraction model is illustrated with examples and the capabilities of a DATAM model in subview formation and in evolution are considered. DATAM provides a basis for the analysis of data models and analyses of the relational and network models are discussed.
