Recognizing potential giftedness and nurturing creativity in the young child

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a parent education resource handbook which will assist parents in identifying and nurturing intellectual ability and creativity in the young child. The review of the literature presents support for educating parents to recognize and nurture intellectual ability in young children. The young gifted child, ages four through eight is discussed. A survey of parent needs regarding the able learner was conducted. Based on the survey and the review of the literature, the parent education resource handbook was developed. This handbook is titled Parent Education Resource Handbook for Nurturing Giftedness and Creativity in the Young Child. The handbook provides parents with ideas on how to nurture the potential talent of the young child. In it is discussed the role of the parent and programs available to their children within the Los Angeles Unified School District.
