Halfway point: career development at midlife and midcareer

The career development needs of midlife midcareer individuals are not frequently addressed by organizations due to popular belief that the midlife crisis is caused by issues in one's personal life and is left to the individual to resolve on their own. Yet this problem is important to address, because midlife midcareer adults comprise the majority of the U.S. workforce, and within organizations play important roles due to their years of experience and skill level. Midlife midcareer individuals often feel "stuck" in their careers as they may not feel fulfilled due to their changing interests, values, and personalities yet are hesitant to make changes in their career due to the need to maintain financial stability to provide as caregivers for younger and older generation family members. The proposed program is designed to assist midlife midcareer adults in their career development. Through the use of career interventions grounded in career theory, the program aims to by engage individuals in the process of understanding their life story, examining their values, and exploring different perspectives on their identity and work, in order to assist them in designing a meaningful future career path.
