A sensibilidade da literatura portuguesa dos séculos XV e XVI às matemáticas : índices e problemas para um estudo de História Cultural

Abstract

Essentially this article intends to propound methods and evidence which allow the organization of investigations into the susceptibility of literature to mathematics. The author intends to prove that this phenomenon can be explained on three levels: 1) quantative ennumerations, 2) literary witnesses to the history of mathemetics and 3) literary creation based exclusively on mathematical themes. These three aspects are examined against the following texts: Crónica de D. João 1 by Fernão Lopes, Esmeralda de situ orbis by Duarte Pacheco Pereira, Miscelânea by Garcia de Resende, Ropica Pnefma by João de Barros and Trovas a Filipe Guilhem by Gil Vicente.
