Distribución de sales nutrientes y carbono orgánico en la zona frontal índica del Océano Antártico (otoño 1991)

Abstract

[EN] Tre frontal zones tht surround the Antartic Ocean are very close each other in the Indic section of the Antartic Ocean. They form an unique frontal structure. The hydrography of this area has been studied mainly in base of salinity, temperature and oxygen data obtained in spring and summer. Nutrients salts and total organic carbon data were obtained in the Antartic cruise SUZIL-91 during the Austral autumn, 11 April/23 May 1991. The cruise took place on board thr French "Marion Dufresne" R/V in the area located between Crozet, Kerguelen and New Amsterdam Islands. The surface concentrations of nutrient salts increase towards the south. The highest values of nutrient salts were determined in the stations close to Crozet and Kerguelen Islands. The nutrients/salinity diagrams show two well defined groups of values corresponding to those stations sited at the North and at the South of the frontal zone. However, it was not found a lineal relation between the nutrient concentrations and the salinity caused by the lack of winter mixture during the sampling period. The total organic carbon distribution, which concentration ranges between 50 and 150 µM, does not the same tendency observed for the other parameters (S, T, nutrient salts) but shows rich carbon areas mised with poorer ones. This fact is probably due to the different biological activity occurred in the frontal zone

[ES] Las zonas frontales que circundelimitan al océano antártico se hallan muy próximas en el sector Índico del océano Antártico formando una estructura frontal única. La hidrografía de esta zona se había estudiado fundamentalmente en base a valores de salinidad, temperatura y oxígeno con datos obtenidos en primavera y verano. los datos de sales nutrientes y carbono orgánico total se obtuvieron durante la campaña antártica SUZIL-91 que transcurrió en el otoño austral, desde el 11 de abril al 23 de mayo de 1991, a bordo del B/O francés "Marion Dufresne", en el área geográfica comprendida entre las islas Cozet, Kerguelen y Nueva Amsterdam. La concentración superficial de sales nutrientes sigue una variación creciente hacia el sur. Los valores más altos se midieron, como era de esperar, en las estaciones próximas a las islas de Crozet y Kerguelen. A partir de los diagramas nutrientes-salinidad se obtienen de forma clara dos grupos bien definidos de puntos que corresponden a estaciones situadas al norte o al sur de la zona frontal. Sin embargo, no existe una relación lineal entre la concentración y la salinidad debido a que no se ha producido aun la mezcla invernal. La distribución de carbono orgánico total, cuya concentración oscila entre 50 y 150 µM, no sigue la misma gradación observada para el resto de los parámetros (S, T, nutrientes), sino que alternan zonas ricas con otras más pobres, lo que está probablemente causado por una diferente actividad biológica habida en la zona frontal
