Abstract

'The Logbook' is a historical romance screenplay set in rural New Zealand during World War Two. In the isolated waters bordering New Zealand's coastline, a German U-Boat embarks on one of the longest-distanced voyages in World War Two. When KLAUS VON WOLFF, the son of a high-ranking Nazi official arrives ashore one day to steal milk for his crew, he finds himself stranded and unable to make contact. Desperate to avoid capture, his journey leads him to a lighthouse on an isolated cape where he encounters KATHRYN GUTHRIE, a war widow hiding from an estranged wealthy father-in-law seeking custody of her son. Klaus takes Kathryn and her son, hostage, using them as a means of acquiring the parts needed to fix his damaged radio transceiver but when an uninvited arms dealer turns up one night, Klaus is convicted to protect them and Kathryn must decide who the enemy really is.
