Myanmar: «O coração da Ásia» e a competição entre a China e a Índia (2008-2018)

Abstract

A presente dissertação de mestrado tem como principal problemática as relações bilaterais da Birmânia/Myanmar com dois grandes estados, a China e a Índia, no período compreendido entre 2008 e 2018. O primeiro capítulo focar-se-á na conjuntura interna de Myanmar, nos campos político, económico e social, interpretando o contexto histórico e geográfico deste país. O segundo capítulo analisa as relações bilaterais do estado birmanês com os países acima referidos, onde estarão delimitados os diversos interesses que estes têm no país. Além disso, demonstra a evolução das relações diplomáticas à medida que Myanmar se tenta democratizar, modernizar e ganhar uma posição de maior destaque na política regional, ou seja, no Sudeste Asiático. O terceiro capítulo retrata os problemas que Myanmar apresenta no seu âmbito regional, isto é, as suas fragilidades em termos de política externa, e em que estados se tem apoiado e construído uma aliança mais forte de modo a lidar com as mudanças políticas e económicas que têm vindo a ocorrer no seu território.

This master degree’s dissertation has as its main focus the bilateral relations of Burma/Myanmar with two states, China and India, between 2008 and 2018. The first chapter deals with Myanmar’s internal affairs, which includes the current political, 5 economical and social situation in the country. It will also have a historical contextualization so that the readers can have an insight of Burma’s history and geography. The second chapter will analyse the bilateral relations of the Myanmar state with the countries that were referred above, which includes, China and India. It will present the different interests that each state has on Burma/Myanmar and how their foreign relations have developed as this Asian country modernizes and becomes more democratic. The third and last chapter regards the regional problems that the country has and how it affects its foreign policy. We will show in which states it has supported itself the most, in order to deal with its fragilities and strategic interests.
