A relevância da perceção e da mitigação do risco de inundação nas zonas ribeirinhas do rio Tâmega na cidade de Amarante

Abstract

A cidade de Amarante tem sido atingida por vários episódios de inundações dadas as suas caraterísticas morfológicas, pois encontra-se situada numa área de depressão, influenciada pela sua localização (cotovelo do canal) e pela passagem do rio Tâmega pelo centro histórico, e nem sempre tem sido fácil mitigar os danos daí decorrentes (Gomes & Costa, 2004). Este trabalho tem como principal objetivo avaliar a perceção e a mitigação do risco de inundação por parte dos habitantes/comerciantes das zonas ribeirinhas, no centro da cidade de Amarante. Tentar compreender a forma como estes relevam os episódios de cheia com que se debatem frequentemente e de que forma os mitigam ou poderão mitigar no futuro. Pretende-se com este trabalho promover a implementação de medidas/projetos de apoio que possam reduzir ou minimizar os prejuízos e desenvolver e concretizar propostas para fazer face às inundações nas zonas de cheia na cidade de Amarante. A metodologia de trabalho consistiu na recolha de informação através de questionário adequadamente estruturado para o efeito, com pré-teste, composto por perguntas estruturadas e não estruturadas e posterior tratamento com recurso ao SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Este trabalho teve como base vários documentos, elencados nas referências bibliográficas, referentes à temática a estudar e na identificação dos principais problemas vividos pela população no que diz respeito às inundações. Nesse sentido, e com base nos resultados obtidos dos inquéritos, pretendeu-se criar um Manual de Boas Práticas como instrumento informação/formação e prevenção e de um grupo de voluntários para auxiliar os comerciantes/habitantes na prevenção contra as inundações (remoção de mobiliário / produtos / e outros).

The city of Amarante has been hit by several episodes of flooding given its morphological characteristics, as it is situated in a depression area, influenced by its location and by the passage of the Tâmega River by the historic center, making it hard to mitigate the damages arising from these episodes (Gomes & Costa, 2004). The main objective of this work is to evaluate how the habitants/marketers in the city center of Amarante perceive and mitigate the risk of floods. Also, it tries to understand the way they report the flood episodes that they regularly face and how they mitigate them or will mitigate in the future. This work aims to promote the implementation of measures/support projects that may reduce or minimize the losses and develop proposals to tackle the floods in the susceptible areas in the city of Amarante. The methodology of the work will consist in the collection of information through a structured questionnaire made for this purpose, including a pre-test, composed of structured and unstructured questions and subsequent treatment using the SPSS Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). This work will be based on several documents, listed in the references, related to the topic of the study and in the identification of the main problems experienced by the population with regard to floods. Furthermore, and on the basis of the results of the surveys, it is intended to create a manual of good practices and the creation of a group of volunteers to assist the marketers/habitants in flood prevention (removal of furniture/products/and others).
