Resumo
Este nosso breve estudo pretende analisar a ideia messiânica de Portugal patenteada na reflexão identitária e utópica do Padre António Vieira. Destacaremos os principais textos e ideotemas do grande pregador jesuíta onde são cinzeladas visões de Portugal e do futuro da europa e do mundo, de modo a ensaiarmos a compreensão do seu significado no contexto da sua produção retórica e tendo em conta as preocupações nacionalizantes e/ou religiosas que estão na base do discurso em torno do continente em que o seu país se situava e onde estava situada a sede temporal da sua igreja. Portanto, a compreensão da ideia de Portugal em vieira será umbilicalmente interligada com o seu ideário católico fundamental, isto é, com a sua eclesiologia, e coma sua afeção nacionalizante, ou seja, com a sua lusitanologia.
This brief study aims to analyse the messianic idea of Portugal present in the identitary and utopian reflections of Father António Vieira. We highlight the main texts, ideas and themes of the great Jesuit preacher where visions of Portugal and of the future of Europe and the world are established, so we can further understand their meaning in the context of his rhetorical writings, taking into account the nationalizing and/or religious concerns underpinning the discourse about the continent where his country was situated and where his church was based in temporal terms. Therefore, understanding the idea of Portugal in Vieira is intimately connected with his fundamental catholic ideary, meaning its ecclesiology and his nationalizing leanings, i.e. with his lusitanology.
