Génese textual da adaptação dramática do conto O Suave Milagre

Abstract

Esta dissertação procura estudar a génese textual da adaptação dramática do conto O Suave Milagre, de Eça de Queirós, empreendida por Bernardo Pinheiro Correia de Melo (Primeiro Conde de Arnoso) e Alberto de Oliveira. O projeto partiu da constituição do dossiê genético desta obra, culminando numa edição de orientação genética dos dois manuscritos autógrafos (pertencentes ao espólio E32 da Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal) e do subsequente impresso de 1902. Esse trabalho editorial foi depois complementado pela transcrição de alguma correspondência dos autores e pela análise das principais fontes exogenéticas, com o objetivo de definir uma possível cronologia da escrita e interpretar as campanhas de revisão por que o texto escrito foi passando. Por outro lado, procurou-se analisar a polarizada receção crítica da peça à luz do contexto sociopolítico da época, da decadência do teatro em Portugal e das dificuldades especificamente ditadas pela transcodificação da narrativa queirosiana. Assim, o trabalho debruça-se, ainda que brevemente, sobre algumas questões teóricas de adaptação, autoria colaborativa e genética teatral.

This dissertation focuses on the textual genesis of a dramatic adaptation of Eça de Queirós’ short story O Suave Milagre, which Bernardo Pinheiro Correia de Melo (first Count of Arnoso) undertook with Alberto de Oliveira. The project started with the constitution of the genetic dossier of this work, culminating with a genetically oriented edition of the two authorial manuscripts (belonging to the E32 collection in the National Library of Portugal) and the subsequent 1902 printed edition. Selective transcriptions of the authors’ correspondence and their exogenetic sources also contributed to a tentative writing chronology of the revision campaigns. On the other hand, the essay tries to analyse the critical reception of the play within the sociopolitical context of the time and the decadence of Portuguese theatre, but also specific difficulties in transcoding Queirós’ narrative. Therefore, it briefly discusses some theoretical issues related to adaptation, collaborative authorship, and the genetic study of performance.
