New gender identity laws, approved by different states of the planet, increasingly tend to recognise the possibility of including a third gender, neither male nor female, on their civil registries. This formula, which breaks with the multi-secular binary system of the hegemonic sexes in the West, has been framed within the context of the rights of intersex people. This article outlines the genealogy of this event in a schematic way.
