Diseño de un túnel para el transporte de contenedores entre el Océano Atlántico y el Océano Pacífico

Abstract

La elaboración del presente proyecto final de grado consiste en el diseño de un túnel para el transporte de contenedores entre el Océano Atlántico y el Océano Pacífico; como alternativa al actual paso de embarcaciones por medio del canal de Panamá, el cual, es conocido como la única alternativa de transporte entre los dos océanos hasta el momento. A partir de las investigaciones, consultas y análisis realizados por el equipo de trabajo se pretende inicialmente identificar las problemáticas relacionadas con el uso del canal de Panamá para el tráfico de contenedores entre el Océano Atlántico y el Pacífico. Esto, con la intención de determinar el nivel de efectividad que posee la metodología actual y con ello poder contemplar el requerimiento de posibles mejoras al sistema. Una vez conocido el problema se procede a realizar el planteamiento de la alternativa que pretende solucionarlo, en este caso será el diseño de un túnel y su puesta en funcionamiento de forma simulada. Luego, se analizará la viabilidad financiera de la implementación del mismo, se caracterizará detalladamente cada uno de los problemas que fueron solucionados por medio de su ejecución y se describirán las partes que conforman el modelo. Además, se espera poder entregar un prototipo de la simulación del sistema, de modo que se pueda representar e ilustrar su funcionamiento. Y finalmente, poder determinar si esta alternativa es útil y provechosa, teniendo en cuenta el impacto positivo que le ofrece al comercio marítimo mundial, los stakeholders (partes interesadas), el medio ambiente y a los avances tecnológicos de la ingeniería moderna. De esta manera, el contenido de este documento pretende detallar las partes y etapas de la ejecución del proyecto, logrando presentar una idea general de lo que significa el acceder a una nueva alternativa que reta a la ingeniería y la industria contemporánea, para brindar beneficios a nuestra sociedad con el mayor alcance posible.

The development of this final degree project consists of the design of a tunnel for the transportation of containers between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean; as an alternative to the current passage of vessels through the Panama Canal, which is known as the only transportation alternative between the two oceans so far. Based on the research, consultations, and analysis carried out by the working team, the initial aim is to identify the issues related to the use of the Panama Canal for container traffic between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This is done with the intention of determining the level of effectiveness of the current methodology and thus considering the need for possible improvements to the system. Once the problem is identified, the proposal of the alternative that aims to solve it is made, in this case, it will be the design of a tunnel and its simulated implementation. Subsequently, the financial viability of its implementation will be analyzed, detailing each of the problems that were solved through its execution, and describing the components that make up the model. Additionally, the aim is to deliver a prototype of the system simulation so that its operation can be represented and illustrated. Finally, the goal is to determine whether this alternative is useful and beneficial, considering the positive impact it offers to global maritime trade, stakeholders, the environment, and the technological advancements of modern engineering. Thus, the content of this document aims to detail the parts and stages of the project's execution, presenting a general idea of what it means to access a new alternative that challenges contemporary engineering and industry, to provide benefits to our society with the widest possible reach.
