Abstract: | Concrete made by using Portland Cement (PC) is the most widely used material on earth accounting for about 30% of all materials flows on the planet and 70% of all materials flows in the built environment. It is generally known that the production of cement clinker is highly expensive and ecologically and environmentally harmful due to hazardous emissions of CO2, NOx and SOx, which are the significant contributors to the Green House Gas (GHG) effect . Therefore, there is an urgent requirement for redirecting the construction industry away from its overwhelming reliance on PC. Use of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCM) up to some extent will be fine for small projects. The next option is to search for alternative cement binders. In recent years, three promising alternative cements, namely, Geopolymer (GP) cements, eco-cements and sulfoaluminate cements have come to significance. Although many new and advanced binder systems are mentioned in the literature, Geopolymer Cement Concretes have emerged and suggested by many investigators which is a potential candidate for replacement of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) Concretes. For about a decade, many investigations have been carried out on Geopolymer cement paste, Geopolymer Cement Concrete (GPC) by evaluating mechanical and durable properties. Many systematic investigations were reported in the literature majorly on evaluation of mechanical, durability properties and flexure behavior on Fly Ash (FA) based GPC. newline newline newline |
