Abstract: | The study titled A Critical Study on Consumer rights and Human rights with special reference to food safety and standards of children was undertaken with the primary objective to understand the effectiveness of the present framework of consumer protection laws from a human rights perspective. The study was also intended to strengthen the right to health and right to food framework in relation to food safety standards. The study also aimed at analysing and interpreting the child consumer rights as human rights with judicial precedent to be incorporated under consumer protection laws. newlineThe researcher has adopted a Pragmatic paradigm, which places the research problem as central and applies all approaches to understanding the problem. The study has adopted Phenomenological Design, which describes the meaning for several individuals of their lived experiences of a concept or a phenomenon. The basic purpose of this approach is to undertake investigations from a reflective point of view. An empirical study on understanding child consumer behaviour was also conducted with a sample of 950 children and 300 parents from two schools each in three districts of Kerala. newlineThe research study has focused and confined the analysis mainly to the need for recognizing child consumer rights as human rights in the light of judicial decisions, national and international legal framework. This study has accentuated the imperative need for acknowledgment of child consumer rights as human rights within the contours of international and national (Indian) legal framework. newline newline |
